JAVA is a high-level object-oriented programming language designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. The Object-oriented programming language approach minimalizes the time to write the code. It enables the programmers to work harder on other issues related to the project, such as a logic building. Java is widely used for different purposes, such as mobile applications as well as web-based applications. With the JAVA language's evolution, many frameworks that work with it came into existence. A framework is basically a pre-defined set of functions that supports programmers in coding any application. Many frameworks work with JAVA, such as;
- Google Web Toolkit (GWT)
What is Java Spring Framework?
Spring is one of the most popular Java frameworks, which consists of many sub-frameworks, and Spring Boot is one of them. It is considered a collection of sub-frameworks or even layers. Being a lightweight framework, Spring is favored for developing enterprise applications.
The use of Spring in JAVA
Spring is an open-source framework that provides Java applications with solid architectural support. Not only this, it helps developers to create high-performing applications. Therefore, you can hire dedicated java developers with expertise in spring boot framework and Spring Data JPA to have a scalable and top-notch application.
What type of Framework is it?
This open-source Framework, Spring, is unique because of its following features;
- Dependency injection
- Easy integration with other frameworks
- Transaction management
What is Spring Boot Framework in Java?
Java Spring Boot (Spring Boot) is a tool that accelerates and simplifies the development of web applications and microservices (Micro Service is an architecture that allows the developers to develop and deploy services independently) with the Spring Framework through its three primary features: Autoconfiguration, a unique approach to configuration, and competency to create standalone applications. An open source Java-based framework, Java Spring Boot is used to build micro Services. The Pivotal Team created and is used to create standalone, production-ready spring apps.
The use of Spring Boot in Java
It helps the developers to create standalone applications which run on their own without relying on external web servers. Moreover, it provides opinionated 'starter' dependencies to streamline the configuration.
Spring Boot JPA
A Java specification called Spring Boot JPA is used to manage relational data in Java applications. It enables data access and persistence between a Java object or class and a relational database. JPA (Java persistence API) is a set of interfaces that follows object-relation mapping. Moreover, it is simple, clean, and suitable for non-performance-oriented complex applications.
Spring Data JPA Implementation
JPA is an open-source API that aids developers in working directly with objects rather than SQL statements. JPA implementation is called persistence provider. A standard for storing, accessing, and manipulating data from your Java object to your relational tables in the database is provided by the Java Persistence API. The rules and references for creating interfaces that adhere to standards are laid out in JPA.
Configure Spring Data JPA in Spring Application Development
What you need- STS IDE, MySQL workbench, Java 8+
You can start by taking an example of creating a Sprint boot project in STS. First, give the project a name and select the dependencies you need to work on, such as Spring JPA, MySQL driver, and Spring Web.
Later, Create a simple POJO(Plain old java class) with some JPA explanation.
Create a straightforward JPA-annotated POJO (Plain Old Java class).
This annotation, @Entity, specifies that a class may be mapped to a table.
@Id: This annotation describes the entity's main key.
The main key generation mechanism is specified using the annotation @GeneratedValue. i.e. Tells the database to automatically create a value for this field. AUTO will be used by default if no strategy is specified.
Data Access Object Layer(DAO):
Any class that fits the description or archetype of a repository is marked with the annotation @Repository (also known as Data Access Object or DAO).
JpaRepository<Employee, Long> The JPA-specific extension of the Repository is called JpaRepository. It includes the whole API for the PagingAndSortingRepository and CrudRepository. As a result, it has API for both basic CRUD operations and API for sorting and pagination. Here, we allow employees to use the database.
@Service: This annotation offers some business functionalities when used with various classes. Spring context autodetects these classes when annotation-based configuration is used. JPA has various redefined methods to perform the database operations. A few of them are used in the codes below.
@RestController- Using this Spring annotation, REST APIs can be built declaratively. A class is marked as a request handler using the RestController annotation, and Spring will construct and offer the RESTful web service at runtime.
@Autowired- Similar to the @Required annotation, a constructor, a property, or methods with arbitrary names and/or multiple arguments, this annotation can be used to autowire a bean on the setter method.
@PostMapping- This annotation maps HTTP POST requests onto specific handler methods. This composed annotation works as s shortcut for @RequesrMapping.
@GetMapping- This annotation serves as a shortcut for @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod. GET), which is a specialized form of the @RequestMapping annotation. The @Controller annotated classes' @GetMapping annotated methods process HTTP GET requests that match the specified URI expression.
@DeleteMapping- Mapping this annotation, HTTP DELETE requests onto specific handler methods. As a shorthand for @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod. DELETE), it is a constructed annotation.

Display output using JPA in postman:
Later, you can open postman and hit the mentioned APIs gradually.
Configure the persistence layer of a Spring application. You can also briefly check the steps on how you can configure the persistence layer of a Spring application using Spring Data JPA and Hibernate.
- Create the Properties File - database.properties
- Configure the Datasource Bean
- Configure the Entity Manager Factory Bean
- Configure the Transaction Manager Bean
- Enable Annotation-Driven Transaction Management
- Configure Spring Data JPA
- Read property file using @PropertySource Annotation
- Complete Configuration code - PersistenceJPAConfig class
- Configure Spring Data JPA XML
